Individuality is a thing to behold – At Zenergy Yoga Blackrock find a teacher and class to suit your style and ability
Following guidance from numerous physiotherapists and surgeons, Yoga had been recommended to aid recovery and improve performance. Coming to the mat with a competitive and anxious mind she was unsure of how the Yin and Yang of this would mesh together. After only a few weeks of regular practice, improvements to all injuries were seen, and flexibility followed quickly.
Once flexibility was no longer an issue and injuries had cleared up, she felt compelled to keep returning to the mat. It became clear that the attraction was the huge beneficial effect it started to have on her mind and general well being!! Never one for sitting still for too long this was her mediation in movement. Regular practice allowed her to connect with herself again, to be present, mindful and brought clarity, positivity and happiness to every aspect of her life. It was a turning point in life and made her realize that she wanted others to experience the peace and happiness that Yoga has brought her.
Leaving the stability of the corporate world behind, she has followed her dreams, aiming to turn them into a reality and trusted in the Universe to guide her on her journey. She travelled to India, learned from the best, gaining significant experience and discipline, and qualified as a Yoga teacher in 2012.
Her studio opened in April 2013 where she has regular practice with her students.
I first found yoga in my teens and explored the practice alongside playing sport. I am passionate about yoga philosophy and the energy body. We can unknowingly hold stress in our bodies. Yoga is an amazing tool to release and transform our stress physically, emotionally and energetically. Through my yoga classes I hope to offer you a safe space to connect and begin your own journey of self-discovery, transformation, healing and growth. My yoga classes aim to build strength, resilience and flexibility -both physically and mentally – on our mats to transfer into our daily lives.
I play GAA and other sports where yoga has been an amazing tool supporting me through many injuries such as prolapsed discs, annular tear, dislocated shoulder, torn AC shoulder joint, torn oblique and other minor injuries. I always returned to yoga in my rehab to aid and promote my recovery, regain flexibility. Yoga has been proven to enhance an athlete’s performance. It helps to improve our flexibility, balance, strength and coordination – all of which positively affect performance. Studies also show that yoga supports injury prevention and is beneficial in pre-season training programmes.
Her 250hr training in Hatha Yoga in The Elbow room fuelled her passion for learning, and her pregnancy yoga course with Yoga Therapy Ireland gave her the additional skills to ensure that she could support pregnant people as they move through their trimesters towards their delivery. Her classes will focus on movement and breathwork which will challenge mama to move her body in a safe way, which will then support her through her labour and delivery. We will use props such as birthing balls, tennis balls for myofascial release of tight spots, belts and bolsters to ensure comfort and safety when relaxing. Orla is also a trained Postpartum Doula and is passionate about supporting mamas as they move through their matrescence into motherhood.
As a personal trainer ,cyclist, sea swimmer, martial artist and actor, I used yoga as a form of getting in the zone, stretching and cooling down with clients and
after my own intense workouts.
However, it wasn’t until I was introduced to the practice of Ashtanga Yoga by the very brilliant Nikki Cousins, that I got a glimpse of the full potential of yoga and its many benefits .
Since my first immersion into Ashtanga Yoga, I have trained with many of the worlds leading exponents of this and other brilliant practices including, David Swenson, Matthew Sweeney, Peter Sanson, Kino Macgregor, Hemish Hendry ,Day Christensen, Bronwen L Kettleson, Sierra Hollister along with our very own Luke Jordan, Cathy Pearson and Tony Purcell.
I took the Samadhi Yoga teacher training diploma in its inaugural year, under the expert and selfless guidance of Greg Walsh, Nikki Cousins, Cara Chotiner, Ronan Mee and Rohan Hennessy. I feel very humbled and blessed to be one of its first graduates. My yoga training is on going and life long.
I am eternally grateful to all who have guided and helped me on my continuing yoga journey and feel truly blessed to be in a position to share some of what I have experienced with my fellow students.
Since Graduating , yoga has been my passport to teaching far and wide, at home and abroad. From Australia to Drogheda, South Korea to China and all over Ireland.
I have taught regular classes in Samadhi Yoga Temple Bar now known as Temple Bar Yoga and Samadhi Drogheda( sadly no longer around) along with workshops and classes in the beautiful and inspirational Yoga Boann in Duleek, run by the very brilliant Barbara Carolyn and am a regular teacher in the north easts most beautiful, uplift-lifting, warm and welcoming Zenergy Yoga studios Blackrock run by my close friend and truly inspirational Orla McAdam.

To deepen her own practice and to share the positive effects of yoga with others, Deirdre decided to train as a Yoga teacher with Yogacharya Lalit Kumar, Himalaya Yoga Valley and graduated from 200hr teacher training in 2015. She now cannot imagine life without it! She considers herself a student of yoga first and feels privileged to share experience of yoga with everyone who comes to her classes. As a teacher Deirdre hopes to bring to her students the positivity and benefits that she has encountered throughout her own practice and training, endeavouring to create a relaxed and welcoming environment where people of every level can learn at their own pace and see steady physical gains in strength, stamina, and flexibility as they challenge themselves and find greater calmness and balance in their daily lives.
As a trained P.E teacher who is currently undertaking a masters in Primary Education Deirdre is a teacher at heart. She is passionate about teaching and sharing yoga with everyone, including kids and teens. She completed further training with Rainbow Kids yoga in 2016. Deirdre is constantly inspired by the imagination and energy of children and sees how yoga can serve to promote positive mental and physical health as well as building resilience in children and adolescents. What she would love most is to bring the powerful and fun practice of yoga to even the littlest of yogis so that they are empowered to have healthy, happy and balanced lives.
I teach Vinyasa Flow yoga and have been trained by Flow Studio in Belfast.Having started my own yoga practice 13years ago I have tried many different styles of yoga. After I discovered Vinyasa I just feel in love with the creative influences, and how the practice made my feel both physically and mentally. Vinyasa Flow Yoga is a dynamic style of yoga where the breath is linked with every movement, and the practice is woven to an awesome soundtrack. It helps to calm and focus the mind, improves flexibility, strength and balance, and it’s really fun! Classes are all-levels, so are suitable for all ages and abilities. Whether you are completely new to yoga or have experience there is a challenge for everyone.
